KERRY KING Is Not Interested In Reading The 'Nonsense' In DAVE MUSTAINE's Autobiography
October 14, 2010John Serba of The Grand Rapids Press recently conducted an interview with SLAYER guitarist Kerry King. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine's autobiography:
"I certainly don't need to hear what kind of nonsense is in that book. Dave's got a very skewed perspective."
On whether he'd consider writing a book about SLAYER:
"I've forgotten more stories than I can remember, I'm sure ... Between the four of us, we could piece things together, but we don't have the drug overdoses and the therapists and all that ...."
On why the band's performing the album "Seasons in the Abyss" in its entirety:
"Because promoters get cold feet really easy, and when you cancel a tour twice, they want some enticement to bring fans in. To me, that's a logical, historic record to do. I'm definitely interested in doing the new one as well."
On being recognized not just in the context of metal, but as a great rock band, period:
"The whole movement we were part of, with METALLICA, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX, TESTAMENT, EXODUS — the genre's big, and I don't think there'll ever be a point in history where it's not going to be cool, or just a fad. That being said, there's no reason it wouldn't be looked on as a good period of time, and we were good in that period of time."
On the possibility of U.S. dates for the "Big Four" (METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX):
"My mentality on the 'Big Four' is, you've done it in Eastern Europe, let's do in the States, let's do it in Western Europe, let's do it in Australia and South America. One of the issues is METALLICA just got done touring for two years and are on a well-needed break. The logistics of getting all four bands to have free time, you have to look far into the future. We're booked through probably next April, and I'm sure summer has festivals in Europe or something in the States, so we're looking at fall of next year, if we're lucky."
